This piece is from a series commissioned by Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas called The Girls of Caesar's Palace, and features a beautiful young woman carrying a carafe of wine. A combination of techniques are used in painting this original: LeRoy used a palette knife and a brush technique applied over a background of broad strips of color, showing through to the top layer. This unusual subject was one LeRoy often painted; the Harlequin, and here he coupled it with another favorite, "the Nude". It has been said that the Harlequin wore the outfit he made famous because of his poor upbringing. The Harlequin's family members helped make his costume for the carnival in Bergamo, Italy.
